The role:

Emerald Airlines currently have a requirement for a Director Safety, Security and Compliance, reporting to the CEO. We are looking for an exceptional candidate that has the drive and ambition to develop and build out the team and contribute to the overall strategy of the organisation. This is a fantastic opportunity for a self-motivated person to work with a strong management team which consists of highly experienced professionals in the aviation industry.


The Director Safety, Security and Compliance acts as the primary focal point for all aspects of the Emerald Airlines Management System (MS). He/she will coordinate the development and embedding of the MS’s core processes, functions and outputs.  The Director Safety, Security and Compliance owns and drives MS development and embedding activities on a day-to-day basis across Emerald Airlines and is to:

  • Ensure the development, administration, maintenance and effectiveness of the Management System.
  • Work proactively with fellow Heads, Managers and Airline Departments to establish and maintain systems and processes that promote a culture of safe working practices that goes beyond regulatory compliance to ensure that operations, employees and customers are truly safeguarded.
  • Advise the Board and Leadership Team on the implications of current and emerging safety issues including changes to safety and compliance legislation.
  • Promote company-wide leadership to embed a safety culture that balances operational demands against safety risk.
  • Liaise with the IAA, AAIU and other external organisations regarding safety, compliance.
  • Liaise with the DfT and IAA with regards to Security matters where required.
  • Participate in the review and amendment of the Management System Manual to reflect current regulations and Company practice.
  • Ensure all findings raised under the CMP are closed satisfactorily or escalated to the Accountable Manager.
  • Maintain the documentation of all policy and process as defined under the departmental responsibilities with regards to MS, Safety Investigations, Just Culture.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the Safety, Security and Compliance Team.
About you:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of safety management principles and practices;

  • Broad operational knowledge and experience in the functions of the airline and supporting systems;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of, and thorough understanding of Continued Airworthiness concepts and principles, and applicable regulations;
  • Analytical and problem solving skills;
  • Understanding of human and organisational factors;
  • Commercial mind set and strong communication skills;
  • Energetic with a positive ‘can do’ attitude;
  • Ability to identify and drive change.
